"Lady's Hawk" One-of-a-kind
© 1995, Susan Oliva-Hook for Out of Time
"Lady's Hawk" represents one of the pastimes of Mediaeval England. Women
hunted with their birds, and used them as decoration as well. The "hawk"
is actually a European Merlin, which is a falcon, and was the bird of
choice for noble women of the day because of their smaller size and
weight.
Her head and bust are wax, and her hands and feet are a mixture of Fimo®
and Super Sculpey. The Merlin is sculpted from Sculpey and is covered with
real feathers. Her hair is hand sewn mohair and her eyes are Glastic. She
is cloth over wire armature and her full standing height is 15 inches.
